BOARD & Staff

Meet the Board

COVER’s Board gathers around the table once a month to provide community oversight and guidance to COVER staff.  These dedicated Board members also spend time in between our monthly meetings to work with committees of community members.

Every year some members of COVER’s wonderful Board of Directors finishes their term and new faces arrive to keep COVER going forward. You can browse and read their brief biographies below.

Gloria Johnson was born and raised in Claremont, NH. She has 3 children and 3 grandchildren and is retired after 50 years working as secretary/surgical scheduler, including 14 years at New London Hospital. She loves volunteering and has been active with the Ladies Auxiliary of Croydon for 20 years, as well as 6 years for the Special Olympics, and 4 years for both the Newport Senior Center and the Claremont Senior Center. Gloria first reached out to COVER to weatherize her home. She immediately wanted to give back and volunteers at the COVER store when we were short staffed and joined our board in 2021.

Zach is the Branch Manager of Mascoma Bank in Claremont. His connection to COVER goes back to the early days, as his family was a recipient of COVER services when he was a child. That led Zach to join the board in 2020 and he currently serves as the Treasurer. In addition to COVER, Zach also serves on the board of directors for TLC Family Resource Center in Claremont.

Dave is a Principal Engineer with Lab49, a global financial technology consultancy. He grew up in North Carolina and moved his family to Vermont just a few years ago. As an avid DIY-er, he has long been a fan of COVER and the store. Beyond home projects, you can find him cycling, gardening at his home in Quechee, or sailing on Lake Champlain.

Hugh served as COVER Home Repair Director for 8 years and now serves as head of the Home Repair Committee.

After attending Mass College of Art and working as a graphic designer in the Boston area, Judi moved from Massachusetts to Vermont to work as a designer for Dartmouth College.

An artist and a maker, Judi learned how to resource materials of all kinds—so first became acquainted with COVER as a
customer. As an entrepreneur she designed a brick and mortar shop in COVER’s neighborhood. From tools to a sink, she bought many things to help build out the shop. Fast forward—as a result of closing shop, many donations were made.

After renting in 05001 for 20 years she moved to a single-family home in Charlestown, NH with her pit bull mix sidekick Daisy. Only after the rose-colored glasses came off did Judi’s attention to craft and design reveal the supposed move-in ready home was a major rehab. With much work already into the project, Judi sought, and received, the help of COVER for repairs and weatherization.

In addition to her art, Judi is an avid explorer with a particular interest in mycology. She can spot a good mushrooming/foraging spot in all environments, including a McDonald’s parking lot.

Judi considers herself fortunate to have been acquainted with COVER in so many ways and looks forward to contributing more.

Candy is a life-long Vermonter who recently retired from the U.S. Postal Service. Candy graduated with a B.S. from Johnson State College in 2011. Prior to the USPS, Candy worked in hospice care for several years. Candy also owned and operated a convenience store and deli in Montpelier, VT for 15 years and was also a Supervisor at UPS during that time. Candy also previously owned a women’s exercise salon in Barre, VT for a number of years. Over the past 52 years Candy has worked in customer service in various roles and loves meeting people in every walk of life.

Candy received services from COVER Home Repair in 2023 and since that time knew that she wanted to be part of COVER’s mission when she retired. Candy is a firm believer that helping others is the greatest way to give back.
