Volunteer FAQs

Our Home Repair projects begin at 9 am and end by 4 pm. All volunteers must arrive at the home site by 9am. Sometimes projects end early but we ask that you commit to the entire shift, if possible.

It is important that volunteers start at 9 am and stay until 4 pm. We usually can not accommodate a “half day.”

COVER has a long history of encouraging the homeowner to provide a lunch for the volunteers that come to work on their home. However, it is best to come prepared with a packed lunch, but we will let you know if a lunch will be provided by the homeowner! Always bring a reusable bottle of drinking water though.

We provide all tools necessary, but you are welcome to bring your own.

You can meet us at the Home Repair office if you want to carpool from White River Junction, but you MUST communicate and verify this with the volunteer coordinator.

Construction sites are hazardous.

  • People under the age of 14 cannot be allowed on any worksite.

  • People 14 or 15 years old can paint or landscape, but are not allowed on site while other construction is going on.

  • People 16 or 17 may participate in construction work, but cannot use power tools, perform excavation or demolition, or work on rooftops or at heights above 6 feet.

  • People 18 or over can perform all of the normal construction activities.

Typically young people can volunteer on weatherization projects and at the COVER Store.

Please check with the volunteer coordinator if you have any questions.

Yes! We invite groups to volunteer! It is important that we know exactly how many volunteers want to participate so that we can select an appropriate project for your group. Usually 6-8 volunteers per day is the limit. If your group wants a project on a specific day or date, let us know as soon as possible. We can usually hold the date. Email conor@coverhomerepair.org for more details.
